HILLSIDE GARDEN
Location: San Rafael, California
Architect: Swatt Miers Architects
The front yard of this home contains large masses of plants in geometric forms, creating layers of contrasting foliage
colors including: chartreuse, blue, green, and burgundy. Newly planted mature Manzanillo Olive trees offer privacy from the street. Layers of concrete board-form walls step up the slope to the house. In the backyard, a hillside was re-envisioned as a flowering perennial garden, retained by a stone gabion wall. Special moments in the landscape include several sculptures and a Corten steel fire pit.
