FELDSTEIN/ORWIG RESIDENCE
Kentfield, CaliforniaOur design for the landscape of this respectfully restored house and swimming pool came from a desire to maintain the simplicity and spare detail of its mid-century origins. The one-story house was a custom-designed Eichler, featuring adjoining rooms surrounding an interior atrium courtyard. We extended this free-flowing progression of spaces outdoors to include a dining room patio, swimming pool deck, bedroom patio, front entry steps and driveway. Dynamically offset paved areas were linked by walkways, and reinforced by seat walls. A wood deck envelopes a specimen magnolia tree. A wood and glass screen backed by a grove of bamboo serves as a dramatic pool backdrop. It can be lit at night for added effect. Areas of planting were deliberately aligned to provide a soft textural contrast to the smooth and crisp built forms.
